Fresh photos appear to add credibility to suggestions that the iPhone’s Dock connector is on the way out.
Among the scuttlebutt circulating about the iPhone 5 (or whatever Apple chooses to call it – a return to just-plain-iPhone isn’t impossible) is the suggestion that the 30-pin Dock connector will disappear.
This possibility has gained fresh credence with the publication of two sets of photos apparently from different sources but both purporting to show iPhone body parts featuring a smaller connector.
9to5Mac’s report includes photos of what are claimed to be parts from the next iPhone. It’s obvious that the hole visible in one shot is far too small for the familiar 30-pin Dock connector.
Those photos are generally consistent with the parts shown in another pair published by TechCrunch and attributed to UBreakIfix.com.
Whether the photos are “fake as all get-out” as TechCrunch suggests they may be remains to be seen. Even if the photos themselves are genuine, that doesn’t mean the parts they show are real – they could just be mock-ups.
